Crisis Connection Inc. Volunteer Opportunities
Project Support Volunteer
Reports To: CCI Staff
Summary of Duties:
To provide office support and outreach support
Responsibilities Include:
To assist CCI as needed with projects that will not include any direct client contact such as:
- Assembly of children’s bags
- Assembly of rape bags
- Assembly of folders
- Organizing donations
- Placing stickers on pass-outs and brochures
- Delivering educational and outreach materials
Qualifications for Project Support Volunteer:
- Commitment to the philosophy and mission of CCI;
- Acceptance as a CCI volunteer;
- Completion of CCI basic volunteer training (4 hrs.);
- Completion of 10 hrs. required continuing education training annually.
Sanctuary Project Volunteer
Reports To: Sanctuary Program Coordinator
Summary of Duties: To provide a connection between CCI and a CCI Sanctuary Congregation.
Responsibilities Include:
- To provide opportunities for education for the Congregation concerning domestic and sexual violence;
- To provide the Congregation with CCI materials, such as brochures, cards, bulletin inserts, etc. This may include identifying and implementing the process required to display and distribute materials;
- To encourage the Congregation to participate in CCI programs, fund-raisers and special events. This may include identifying and implementing the process required to display and distribute materials;
- To encourage the Congregation in their material support of CCI. This may include making presentations to the appropriate boards/committees for the purpose of fund-raising or acquisition of supplies, such as personal care and household supplies, canned goods, cell phones (with both jacks included), toys and books;
- To communicate the Congregation’s needs, issues or questions related to domestic and sexual violence to the CCI staff; and,
- To act as a supportive resource within the Congregation on behalf of victims of domestic and sexual violence.
Emergency Room (ER) Volunteer Advocate
Reports To: Victim Services Specialist
Summary of Duties:
To provide personal support and advocacy services to victims of domestic and sexual violence in a hospital emergency room or at the Comfort House in Milltown.
Responsibilities Include:
- To be available on an emergency basis and in a timely manner (could be anytime) for victim service at a local ER or the Comfort House;
- To explain the process of forensic collection to the victim and those who may have accompanied the victim to the medical setting;
- To provide victims with information concerning their rights and available services, dispelling myths about domestic and sexual violence and encouraging survivorhood;
- To provide victims with unconditional compassion during the process of evidence collection if so desired by the victim;
- To provide victims with a reassuring, professional presence during the law enforcement interview if so desired by the victim;
- To tactfully speak on behalf of the victim should her/his rights be violated by either medical or law enforcement personnel during the process of the exam and/or interview with law enforcement;
- To document observations, including “excited utterances” in such a manner as to enhance a possible future prosecution of the assailant; and,
- To file a completed client contact sheet with the Victim Services Specialist within 24 hrs. of the ER visit as well as phone contact immediately after the exam is completed.
On-call/Pager Volunteer
Reports To: Victim Services Specialist
Summary of Duties: To provide personal support services to victims of domestic and sexual violence who have contacted CCI via our 24-hour hotline @ 1-800-245-4580.
Responsibilities Include:
- To provide in-person support, encouragement, empathy, advocacy, emergency transportation and other needed services to clients and their children and back-up support for the hotline volunteer on duty;
- To exhibit responsibility in relation to assigned shift. If a volunteer cannot be available for a scheduled shift, they are required to call the business office @ 482-1555 to make changes. If a conflict should arise over a weekend or on a holiday, the volunteer is required to arrange for a qualified replacement by calling staff members at their homes;
- To utilize staff for clarifying or sharing information about clients, community resources or to seek personal support;
- To relay critical client information to a staff member immediately or certainly no later that early the next morning; and,
- To complete and return mandatory paperwork (client contact sheets, in-kind sheets & continuing education forms in particular) on a regular monthly basis to the Jasper office @ P.O. Box 903, Jasper, IN 47547, c/o Victim Services Specialist.
Women & Children Support Group Volunteer
Reports To: Victim Services Specialist
Summary of Duties: To co-facilitate support groups for persons affected by domestic and sexual violence.
Responsibilities Include:
- To attend evening and day groups on a scheduled basis or as needed;
- To notify Victim Services Specialist of a day needed off in a timely manner;
- To complete all necessary paperwork in a timely manner;
- To inform Victim Services Specialist of possible problems occurring with or among clients in a group; and
- To meet with co-facilitator and Victim Services Specialist on regular basis (as scheduled) to discuss group, curriculum, progress and goals.
Hotline Volunteer
Reports To: Staff of CCI
Summary of Duties: To provide personal support services to victims of domestic and sexual violence who have contacted CCI via our 24-hour hotline @ 1-800-245-4580.
Responsibilities Include:
- To provide telephone support, encouragement, empathy, advocacy

CCI Volunteer Policies
- Volunteers are not allowed to accept any remuneration for any activity pertaining to their work on behalf of CCI.
- Volunteers may not mix their private lives with those of the women in crisis; strict boundaries enhance our service delivery.
- Volunteers are never to give their address, phone number, or last name to the clients they come in contact with through the hotline;
- Volunteers are never to go to the home of a client, or to return to the home with a client; all meetings must take place in a safe, public location only.
- Volunteers are never to carry a weapon of any type while on duty; CCI adheres to a strict non-violence code of conduct.
Reasons for the dismissal of a CCI volunteer:
- Working under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
- Violating the confidentiality of CCI clients, CCI volunteers, CCI staff, or any of the safe homes or shelters.
- Engaging in behavior which is destructive to the CCI clients, CCI staff, CCI volunteers, safe home owners or shelter staffs.
CCI Staff/ Volunteer agreement:
The CCI staff agrees to-
- Provide support & evaluation for each volunteer;
- Offer an initial training program & continuing education as dictated by the State;
- Review volunteer performance annually; and,
- Invite volunteer participation with policy making when possible.
The CCI Volunteers agree to-
- Accept the philosophy of CCI and support decisions of the organization;
- Maintain the required confidentiality of CCI clients, volunteers, staff, and all affiliated organizations with whom we may interact with on behalf of our clients;
- Follow their volunteer job description and accept evaluation;
- Notify the agency of a decision to cease volunteerism; and
- Keep self informed of developments in the DV & SA fields by completing the required 10 hrs. per year of continuing education.
