Sexual Violence is a non-legal term that refers to any type of unwanted sexual behavior or contact that occurs without freely given consent. Reasons someone might not consent include fear, age, illness, disability, and/or influence of alcohol or other drugs. Those who sexually abuse can be acquaintances, family members, trusted individuals or strangers. Sexual violence is an intensely personal offense that can have both physical and emotional consequences on the victim.
